Marie Van Brittan Brown T-Shirt – Marie Van Brittan Brown invented the first home security system. Marie and Albert Brown filed for a patent on August 6, 1966 under the title, "Home Security System Utilizing Television Surveillance." The application was approved on December 2, 1969. Important components of the invention were an intercom system, a remote controlled door lock and unlock mechanisim, and push button police notification. As a result of the closed-circuit home security invention, they also invented closed-circuit television.
Marie Brown worked as a nurse and her husband, Albert Brown, worked as an electronics technician. Crime in their Queens New York City neighborhoond was very high and the couples work hours were very non-traditional. As a result, Marie looked for ways to increase personal security.
